Author mirrors vignettes of her life through the pages of her new book

From her personal experiences that brought her life-changing decisions and eye-opening crossroads, Dr. Jennifer Horton offers readers a glimpse of how she grew up, what she had done, and how those changes and choices made an impact on who she has becomes. Three months after Halia moves from Hawaii to Thailand in the 1980s at the age of nine, she gets caught in the largest flood and landslide Thailand has ever seen. Logging was then banned because deforestation was to blame for the landslides. This changes the fate of the Thai logging elephants that are in captivity, and as Halia helps with the conservation effort, she finds that the life-changing influence the elephants have on her will prepare her for the challenging trials she will experience in adulthood. Her story encompasses military takeover, sex trafficking, and civil unrest. She will also find that real love may require sacrificing everything that she holds dear, even the one person she would do anything for.

About the Author

Dr. Jennifer Horton was born in Hawaii on the island of Kauai in 1979. In the 1980’s, she moved to Thailand with her family and spent the majority of her childhood there. When she returned to the United States, she went to school to be an acupuncturist in California, where she earned a doctorate degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Through her writing, she aims to bring conservation awareness, mental health awareness, and cultural diversity to her readers. She currently lives in Folsom, California with her husband and two sons. She enjoys exploring hiking trails around her home with her boys and “Lilly”, a Gordon setter, one of the worlds’ best kept secrets.
