Death and contingent emotions. Disordered eating. The effects of sobriety and alcoholism.

Where I Come From is a collection of poems exploring individual interactions, contemplations (thoughts), conversations, and observations surrounding experiences of neglect, poverty, eating disorders, emotional abuse, and dysfunctional family situations. Seemingly small instances that occur in our everyday lives often go unnoticed to some, or are noticed and disregarded, but can perpetuate the very same habits that are detrimental to oneself.

The reflections encompassed in this exploration are descriptions of precise isolating moments where internal alarms have sounded, but KW chose to ignore at the time as a result of emotional conditioning. So many of these seemingly insignificant experiences shape us; our relationships, our

insecurities, our habits, our livelihood. To read them is to gain insight and understanding that our actions and experiences have impactful outcomes.

KW wrote this book to reflect on, identify, and unlearn the dysfunctional patterns that have become so familiar.

KW is an author from rural Pennsylvania and currently resides in the western Chicago suburbs. Growing up in a dysfunctional, impoverished, single parent household, KW coped with adversity by being emotionally malleable and since then has worked tirelessly to break the cycles of failed communication, emotional abuse, and neglect. As an introspective writer, KW enjoys reading and writing about specific instances or moments where they can gain a deeper understanding of past experiences in order to promote healing and healthy relationships in their adult life.
