This book is a combination of my drawings of the stunning facades of King Street in Charleston, South Carolina as we’ll as photographs and short histories where available. Some of the facades are original and some were added years after the buildings were first constructed. While other groupings may exist elsewhere, I feel this a unique collection on one street and is worth this tribute. The histories are mainly based on research from the South Carolina room of the Charleston County Library. My thanks to the staff there.

Bob Schlau was ordered to Charleston in 1971 to serve as the communications officer on the USS Bordelon. He still lives there with his wife Jan who pushed him to finally finish this project. He has no formal training in art but loves and appreciates all forms. Bob served on the board of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and in his spare time qualified for 1984 and 1988 Olympic Marathon Trials.
