When you commit to something 100%, your hunger for success becomes your daily motivation. You show up day after day and put in the effort, dedication, and strength to obtain what you want in this life. That, is called the Grind.

For Eric Leonard, grinding is the foundation for success in his life… graduating with a Bachelor in Science and a Bachelor in Arts in 3.5 years, a five year (and ongoing) professional soccer career, A Masters in Applied Mathematics, and the all-time appearance leader for Forward Madison FC.

Over the years, this simple yet extremely powerful mentality has taken hard work and put it at the front of his campaign for success. A mentality that is founded upon three words:

Grind. Believe. Achieve. The GBA Mentality.

Over three parts, Leonard uses his story of accomplishing his goals as a professional footballer to illuminate a path that anyone can follow to overcome adversity, fight against conformity, and ultimately achieve 1% more in their life.

Eric Leonard is currently playing his fifth year of professional soccer at Forward Madison in USL League One. He has just recently hit 100 matches played over his time with the club. Playing club soccer growing up, Leonard quickly learned the financial toll required to be on a competitive team where traveling every weekend across the country was expected. This alone prohibited many kids from joining travel teams. GBA Ethos was founded with the main goal of creating an organization that gives all kids the opportunity to play soccer regardless of their family’s financial situation. Leonard’s first fundraising campaign is focused in the Madison, Wisconsin community where he plans to use 50% of the book’s proceeds to help fund local non-profit soccer clubs. His long-term goals include growing GBA Ethos’s reach on a national level and eventually building public turf fields around the country that are open for anyone to use. In his free time, Leonard spends most of it with his wife, Carley, or visiting his parents in Antioch, Illinois. He is very close with his sister, Julia, who just finished her first year of professional soccer for USL W team Indy Eleven and is in the last year of PA school at Butler University. Leonard loves playing the piano, watching, or doing anything soccer related, and of course, spending time with family and friends.

Easy Read

Not only was the entire book easy to read, but it was extremely powerful for my kids who are currently starting their first club soccer team! I recommend anyone with kids who are serious about soccer add this to their reading list.
